I've just make a trial in my sandbox system. Here the steps:

Characteristic TPREAST, Numeric format with Interval values allowed (only numeric characteristics can have intervals, this including TIME, DATE and CURR characteristics):

Value intervals defined as follows:

Dependency (Procedure) that sets a default value within the interval (here, say 10):

This is the code:

$SET_DEFAULT($SELF, TPREAST, 10).

The dependency has been included in the configuration profile.

Now, with the CU50 simulation, the characteristic is getting evaluated through the dependency with a default value:
