Using the standard Java Enterprise API, this should work as described. if you are having issues with this, you may want to reach out to support as what should be happening is that it writes this information to a clusterinfo1400.properties file (or something similarly named), you might have something that is preventing this from being written.
However, if you are using the new Restful SDK that was introduced in 4.x, I am not sure how this works, or if it is intended to utilize this same idea or not, I have not worked much with the newer SDK.
